Summary (updated Dr. R. Kiesling -- May 96)

The following summary was prepared by Stephanie Thomas. It represents the status of this project as we complete the draft final report. Some clean-up sampling of wetland vegetation needs to occur at selected sites. Work will continue in the Big Thicket area through January of 1997 by agreement with the National Park Service and The Nature Conservancy of Texas. Additional sampling of Big Bend sites is planned for June of 1996 (vegetation) and March of 1997 (full sampling trip proposed to be funded by Earthwatch).

Any questions regarding these totals or future trips should be directed to Richard Kiesling at 512-239-4453 or by EMAIL at RKIESLIN@smtpgate.tnrcc.state.tx.us

Summary of Wetlands Sites Status

  1. Total number of light trap sites in Texas: 59
  2. Total number of collection dates: 165
  3. May 96 Draft Report focuses mainly on: 39
  4. Total number of collection dates: 135
  5. Total number of sites identified to Order: 120
  6. Total number of sites identified to Family: 120

Note: 6 samples of the 135 collection dates that have been identified were corrupted, and we have no way of knowing total numbers for these sites. These were excluded from data analysis

Note: The remaining 30 sites not included in the May 96 Final Draft Report were curated by Ralph Garono, with the exception of the Pecos River sites, curated by Gregg Easley. Some of the samples are still being stored in UT Lab, and can be completed at some point. Ralph should have the data for his completed sites.
